Go-Digital Logo

The Go Digital ASEAN initiative focuses on closing the digital gap across ASEAN, in support of the vision set out by the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on MSMEs. Implemented by The Asia Foundation, with support from Google.org, Google's philanthropic arm, the initiative will train up to 200,000 people from rural regions and underserved communities—including entrepreneurs, underemployed youth, and women. Working with local partners in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, the USD3.3 million grant will broaden participation in the digital economy to include groups that have the most to gain from 21st-century skills, such as digital literacy and online safety awareness.

In Malaysia, the Go Digital ASEAN aims to train 15,000 youths with digital literacy skills to upscale their businesses and facilitate market access.

The program in Malaysia is implemented by International Youth Centre (IYC) and StartupMalaysia.

Being digitally literate is a necessary skill for everyone

Most of us use the internet in multiple ways, be it for online banking, shopping, socializing, communicating and researching. We use digital technology to do things that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. And with new technologies emerging every day, this pace of change will only get faster.

Just because we are always connected to the internet and our devices, it is often assumed that we are automatically digitally literate, but this is often not the case.

Digital literacy is the ability to locate, organize, understand, evaluate and analyze information using digital technology.

Without guidance and training, we end up being left to our own devices and unable to access nor benefit optimally from the abundance of resources that is available to us in a safe and secure way.

The Go Digital ASEAN aims to address this need and equip young people and underserved communities with the necessary tools and resources to optimise their digital adoption.
